Folks, the time has finally come-- after five and a half years, I will be taken off the singleton market.

In other words, I'm getting married this Friday.

I'm writing this from the Venetian in Las Vegas, where Joe and I are staying at one of their luxury suites (a free upgrade because we're also getting married here). When we checked in yesterday, the first thing we realized is that it's got more square feet that our current apartment.

Here's a quick rundown of what's in this suite:
- Four televisions (no lie!)-- one in the sitting room, two over by the bar, and one in the bedroom
- An actual sitting room (sofa, chairs, dining room setup)
- Bar (complete with extra fridge separate from the expensive minibar fridge)
- One-and-a-half bathrooms, the master bath having two sinks, jacuzzi, and shower with his-and-hers showerheads
- Huge bedroom with small vanity area

Too bad we couldn't move in here.

In two days I'm gonna be a Connolly. Longer last name but moved up in alphabetical order. I'm really looking forward to all the official name changing when I get back home. Wow.

I suppose I wouldn't mind living in Vegas for a few years... it gets neater and neater every time Joe and I visit. So many new things pop up, get name changes (the Alexis Park resort has been renamed Alexis Villas-- that's where DefCon has been held every year as far as I know) and the like. Several more Starbucks has appeared as well-- I feel inclined to take a visit to one of those places sometime.

I suppose we'll see what happens.

This is a night I will never forget. Not in a million years.

I finally got to see Duncan Sheik perform live, and boy did it rock! Not only that, we exchanged a few words.

Bullhonkery! you must be thinking... Well, let me explain.

I just got back from the Iron Horse Music Hall in Northampton, where my coworker/friend Jane and I just saw an awesome performance by Duncan himself, along with an equally great performance by opening-act performer Jim Boggia. (I ended up getting Jim's new CD, which Duncan personally recommended.)

There were opportunities where I could've gone up to Duncan and introduced myself (at Jane's gentle insistence), but I was such a wuss. How do you present yourself to someone who's totally cool, handsome, and has a beautiful voice to boot? It totally killed me. During the performance though-- that was another story. At one point he asked the audience who had the time, for which I promptly answered, being that I was practically in his line of view (about four or five feet away). That's when he looked at me to confirm ("8:45?" "Yeah"). Just one look, and I'm going nuts inside.

Duncan also mentioned nonchalantly that he was on his high school's wrestling team, to which he added jokingly after that that "we'll have a wrestling match after the show if anyone challenges us". At this point he may have had a bit too much pinot grigio. He mentioned it again during the encore, so I spoke up and said, "I'll take you on right now." Gerry Leonard (Duncan's lead guitarist) pointed at me and said, "We have a challenge!" to which Duncan just looked at me and smiled.

I've been freaking out about it ever since. He looked and spoke to me... he actually did, swear to God. (sigh ^_^)

Best night out EVER.

I sure hope he comes back to perform in October like he mentioned earlier. I've gotta get those CDs autographed (and perhaps my songbook, as well). As soon as those tickets go on sale, they shall be mine!

I just know there will be questions on Monday...

Harvard graduation ceremonies. Stifling-hot temperatures. Tons of customers. Frappuccinos and iced drinks galore. Utter chaos.

The Summer of Hell (or what looks like it) has officially begun.

Seems every summer it gets more and more crazy. I remember the first summer working at Starbucks-- nothing but frappuccinos and iced drinks to be made. And if you run into a mishap that takes a long while to be resolved, until then you were pretty much f---ed. Last summer at my last store (this was in Daly City) our ice machine broke and it took a week to fix, so we all took turns running to the nearest Albertson's for bags upon bags of ice.

This summer is no different. Unlike my last store, which had four blenders, my current store has only two. (Chris thinks the idea of having more than that is ridiculous.) And something did break down all right-- until three days ago our AC conked out, so we had to work in a store that was a sweltering 85 degrees.

Heat makes for a very cranky Catherine. ^_^ (And others, as well.)

At least tomorrow I have something to look forward to. I'm going up to Northampton with my friend Jane to see Duncan Sheik perform at the Iron Horse Music Hall. I'm so psyched... I'm bringing my camera and all my CDs for autographing (jujst in case the meet-and-greet opportunity arises). I hope we're allowed to take pictures. It's definitely a once-in-a-lifetime thing.

As for the wedding countdown, I've got fifteen days of Singletonhood left. Recently my coworkers threw me and my coworker Kristen (she's getting married in July, a week after me) a bachelorette party at Grendel's Den (also in Harvard Square). Not true bachelorette style (some of the guys dropped by), but it was loads of fun nonetheless.

I have a feeling this particular summer is going to be quite interesting.
