Turkish coffee is EVIL.

I'm not saying that it's bad, rather, the stuff is keeping me awake. Note I'm posting this at 3am local time.

Here's what happened: Earlier Joe and I had dinner at this place called Cafe Levonya, which specializes in Armenian/Greek/European-type food. (Food was yummy by the way-- I had some borscht served hot (yes, you can get it two ways), and some lamb dumplings with a tangy yogurt sauce.) When the waitress asked if we would like some Turkish coffee (she called Armenian espresso), I jumped at the opportunity.

As someone who's job is to be a coffee expert, I saw it as a new experience to add under my belt. I've had coffee plain, sipped espresso, savored caramel macchiatos... Having caffeine this way sounded neat.

The coffee was served in a cool little copper pitcher with a long wooden handle, and it poured thick into the demitasse cup that was provided. The taste was superb-- robust and rich with a slight lingering aftertaste and a few caramel notes (probably from the sugar added). It was a great little after-dinner thing.

But now I can't sleep, dammit!

I think I've found something that may be competition for espresso. If only we could serve espresso that way at Starbucks, but then everything is done the Italian way, and not the Turkish way...

Oh well. I'll wait quietly until I crash.
